We’ve now gotten word from Pastrami Queen’s owner that the new location (at 138 West 72nd Street) will open on Tuesday, December 8. The soon to open space was previously home to Fine & Schapiro, which closed for good earlier this year.
Reduced prices will be on the table for Pastrami Queen’s first two days in the neighborhood.
Pastrami Queen has been operating since 1956, starting out in Queens. They currently have a location on the Upper East Side at 1125 Lexington Ave, between 78th and 79th Streets, and ship nationwide.
The late Anthony Bourdain is quoted on Pastrami Queen’s website as having said “The first thing I get when I’m back in New York is a pastrami sandwich. Pastrami Queen is a really good pastrami sandwich — if not the best, among the very best. Just a good, nice mix of fat and lean. It’s the real deal, served warm on fresh, soft rye bread with the right kind of mustard. Good pickles. And they deliver — very happy with that. I get a cream soda. It’s a quintessential New York meal for me.”
Known for their overstuffed sandwiches with 80z portions of pastrami, as well as corned beef, hard salami, smoked turkey and more, Pastrami Queen also offers deli meats by the pound, soups including matzoh ball, chicken noodle and kreplach, a popular potato knish, kugel, franks in a blanket and more.
