A pedestrian was fatally struck by a van on the Upper West Side this week.
Police responded to a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Broadway and West 86th Street on Wednesday at about 4:27 a.m., NYPD officials told ILTUWS.
According to the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad, a 2012 Ford Econoline van, driven by a 41-year-old woman, was traveling eastbound on West 86th Street when it struck the pedestrian in the intersection.
The pedestrian, identified as 57-year-old Patrice Brooks, a resident of 2345 Broadway at West 86th Street, sustained serious injuries. Emergency Medical Services transported Brooks to Mount Sinai Morningside, where he was later pronounced dead.
The operator of the van remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No arrests have been made, and no summonses have been issued.
When asked if the driver had the right of way, an NYPD spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.
The building at 2345 Broadway, also called Euclid Hall, is a single room occupancy (SRO) for “persons with very low incomes, persons with experience of homelessness, and preexisting tenants,” according to the West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, which operates the property.
