We’ve gotten word that Polestar, an electric car company, plans to open a showroom at 150 Amsterdam Avenue between 66th and 67th Streets, which is in the retail portion of The Aire, a luxury rental building. Thanks to ‘Upper West Sider’ for the tip.
The Swedish company is owned by Volvo, though its cars are manufactured in Chengdu, China.
We’ve reached out to the company’s press department to confirm details and to see if they could provide us with more information, including a target opening date.
The car company’s website states that “Polestar is an electric performance car brand harnessing refined performance and cutting-edge technology. Our mission is to bring driving pleasure into a new era with a product offering of progressive, electrified performance cars that are designed and engineered without compromise. Combined with hassle-free ownership and comprehensive customer experience, Polestar offers seamless integration into your (digital) life.”
Models include the Polestar 1, with a starting price of $155,000, and the Polestar 2, which begins at $59,900. Both models can be configured through the company’s website, which allows customers to choose from a variety of colors and features. They’re also working on the Polestar Precept, a sedan which is expected to come out in 2023.

Polestar has another NYC location at 5 East 59th Street, at Fifth Avenue.
Stay tuned for updates.
Zhejiang Geely Holding (Geely Holding) of China bought Volvo Cars in 2010: https://www.media.volvocars.com/global/en-gb/corporate/this-is-volvo. It’s no longer the Swedish-owned company of yesteryear. The separate Volvo Group remains a Sweden-based maker of trucks, buses and heavy equipment.
Thanks so much for clarification. Soon as i read your statement i remembered. And Thank you for support.
Polestar is jointly owned by Volvo & China and now manufactured in China for export to US & Europe. . . This is how Communist China gains its foothold around the world. Considering the CCP steadily expanding incursion inside America i personally would not support yet another particle of Communist China ownership in nyc most especially in my neighborhood. There is a whole lot more to say on this but i will leave it at that.

I agree completely. Not only will the Chinese Government probably bug the cars, almost everything China make is junk.
Count me definitely out on buying a “Polestar”.
Where on UWS can one charge an electric car?
