Surveillance footage of the suspect captured early morning Saturday.

NYPD officials have announced the arrest of Jamel McIver, 30, for raping a 21-year-old female in a building near 65th and West End Avenue this weekend.

At about 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, McIver reportedly followed the victim into the building and then into its elevator where he forced her into a stairwell before raping her, according to police.

McIver’s family members turned him in after police released his surveillance photos to the public, according to Pix11.

Charges against McIver include Rape, Sexually Motivated Burglary, and a Criminal Sex Act. He is currently being held without bail.

According to public records, McIver – a resident of East Harlem – was also arrested in 2019 on charges relating to burglary and sexual abuse in the Bronx, pleading guilty to two of the charges (Burglary in the Second and Third degrees).

The Bronx District Attorney’s office told NBC New York that MacGyver was released in March 2020 on a plea agreement where he needed to complete two years of inpatient care to address substance abuse and mental health issues. He was due back in court for a case update at the end of this month.

McIver’s address of residence, according to the NYPD, is 239 East 121 Street – an addiction treatment center called Odyssey House.

Today, new reports revealed that McIver has 15 prior arrests in NYC, as well as a criminal history in Westchester County and Delaware.
