Rooftop Film Screenings at the JCC

Next month, the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan will begin a series of evening film screenings on the rooftop of their building, located at 334 Amsterdam Ave (at 76th Street). After a year of virtual film festivals and viewings, these will be the first in-person film events at the JCC since the pandemic began.

From May 18-20 at 8pm, the JCC will host screenings of Us Kids, directed by Kim A. Snyder. Us Kids chronicles the March For Our Lives movement—sparked by the plague of gun violence ravaging schools—over the course of several years, following Emma Gonzalez (survivor and co-founder) and a group of teenage activists as they pull off the largest youth protest in American history.

On May 25 at 8pm, there will be a screening of When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, directed by Caroline Link. From Academy Award winning director Caroline Link (Nowhere in Africa) comes an adaptation of acclaimed British author Judith Kerr’s classic novel based on her childhood memories. The story of a Jewish family’s escape from 1933 Berlin to Europe tackles prejudice, exile, displacement and adaptation, as told from the perspective of the author’s alter ego, nine year-old Anna Kemper (Riva Krymalowski in her feature film debut).
