Both restaurants and bars have been having a tough time. But I’ve had growing concerns about the Upper West Side bars which either don’t serve food at all or aren’t really “known” for their food. It seems like these establishments will have the toughest time making it through the crisis. If people aren’t ordering from them right now, how can they make money?
And how can we support them?
Here are just a few ideas:
Let’s start with Dublin House, located at 225 West 79th Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam). One of the oldest bars on the Upper West Side has apparel that you can buy. People can stop by from Friday between 2-7pm when they will be open for to-go service. They also have hats, sweaters and polo shirts you can purchase to support them. Check out their website at www.thedublinhousenyc.com.
Malachy’s, located at 103 West 72nd Street (between Broadway and Columbus), does serve quite delicious bar food, but that doesn’t seem to be keeping them alive right now. However, they’ve launched a GoFundMe campaign which has almost reached its goal of $10,000. Make a contribution here.

The Dead Poet, located at 450 Amsterdam Avenue (between 81st and 82nd Streets), has been actively promoting its cocktails to-go. These include some pretty unique treats; check out these “Adult Capri Suns”!
We wanted to keep this list short to inspire action. Too many options may make it difficult to know where to start. But if you have any other suggestions for supporting and saving other small local bars, please don’t hesitate to comment below!
I’d love to buy a double house hat, but there’s no place on the site to do that.
That is Dublin House. Thanks autocorrect.
yeah, you have to go in person.
Broadway Dive at 101st St., has a “bottle shop” license and their selection of bottled hard ciders is outstanding, on top of the cans and bottles of beer.
Go and get yourself some take out or a growler of fresh draught beer.
Saturday’s you will be greeted by Erin, the nicest barmaid on the UWS!
Say what you will about The Meatball Shop — They’ve been serving the same menu since they opened! It’s so simple I could make it at home! WTF is the deal with the ‘mark your menu’ schtick!? —but there’s no denying that it’s a very useful restaurant. Sure, the menu doesn’t change much, and even the rotating specials seem to boomerang back around pretty often. The thing is, it’s a place where you can get a heaping plate of spaghetti and meatballs
