Thanks to Laurie Marshall of Trademarks the Spot for the tip and photo.

Upper West Siders or those passing through the area of 96th St. and Broadway will no longer have to wrestle with the decision between a sweet or salty treat.

With signage up for a new Auntie Anne’s / Carvel combo location at 2568 Broadway (between 96th and 97th streets), this one-stop shop may solve the age-old dilemma.

For those unfamiliar, Auntie Anne’s offers a variety of soft pretzel-based goodies, mostly notable for its buttery soft original pretzel and nuggets which have become staples for mall shoppers and travelers passing through airports and train stations.

Other pretzel options include pepperoni, cinnamon sugar, sweet almond and pretzel dogs, which feature Nathan’s Famous hot dogs wrapped in pretzel dough. Auntie Anne’s currently has 10 locations in Manhattan, but none further north than 34th Street.

Carvel may be most famous for its ice cream cakes but it’s also a popular suburban staple for its soft-serve and the Carvelanche, similar to the McFlurry (the oreo one is the best).

They’ve also got milkshakes and something called the Sundae Dasher, which “gives you layers and layers of yummy ice cream, thick sauces and sweet toppings.” It’s similar to the McFlurry. Like Auntie Anne’s, Carvel’s current NYC locations are limited to midtown and downtown around transit hubs.

Auntie Anne’s and Carvel are both owned by Focus Brands, which counts Cinnabon, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Jamba, Schlotzsky’s and more among its franchises. Neither Carvel nor Auntie Anne’s has responded to a request for information about opening dates, but we’ll provide updates as we learn more.
