The windows at the old Jacques Torres location — 285 Amsterdam Ave between 73rd and 74th streets — are now papered with signage from William Greenberg Desserts, and, as the signage indicates, it’s expected to open in mid-July.
As the signage also indicates, the sweet shop is best known for its black and white cookies. “With their cake-like texture & rich chocolate & vanilla icing, they’re unforgettable!” says wmgreenbergdesserts.com.

Behind the glass you’ll also find brownies, cupcakes, pies, tarts, breads, pastries and more. Right now, Greenberg’s website homepage is featuring its “Luscious Lemon Cake” as this season’s favorite — and a whole slew of other lemony treats.
William Greenberg Desserts has been an Upper East Side institution since 1946. Last year, the iconic baker renovated and expanded its Madison Avenue flagship.
There’s also a location in Hudson Yards, so this will be William Greenberg Desserts’ third outpost.
Greenberg’s was an Upper West Side institution, too, on Columbus into the 1990’s. Consider this a homecoming.
And once before that, on Boadway, if I remember correctly. So, this will be their third try on the UWS. I hope it succeeds this time!
