Spring Cleaning on the Upper West Side

Last modified on September 29th, 2018

Time to clean out your apartment! Spring is all about being fresh and ready for the new year, taxes are completed and you have a new outlook! Warmer weather, sunshine and all the greenery and flowers are finally returning. However, you may still be surrounded by all the excess things you accumulated last year! Best time to get organized!

Tidying Up Tips

  • Winter jackets and big clothing tend to take over wardrobes and hallways on coat racks. Store your winter wear away with vacuum seal bags or containers from a local housing store. But before you do, there are some great deals to be had at some of the local cleaners who are offering specials on jacket cleaning and duvet dry cleaning. You could also consider donating your winter wear and furniture items to local charities such as Housing Works, conveniently located on 74th and Columbus
  • Have a pet? Time to store those winter clothes and booties (for those pups that have gone outdoors in the winter) and time to get out or buy new walking shoes to get them socializing out in the local dog runs! (72nd run, 81st/columbus, 87th/riverside).
  • Earth day, April 21st, get rid of your unwanted electronics, pesticides, antifreeze, outdated medications and more in a safe way that doesn’t pollute the environment or endanger yourself. Bring your unwanted items to a special Waste Recycling event on the Upper West Side. The drop-off is on Amsterdam Avenue between West 74th and 75th Streets, between 10 AM and 4 PM, rain or shine.

Once you have cleaned up you apartment, treat yourself to buying a bunch of spring flowers like daffodils – buy a small bunch from local delis, Fairway, and Trader Joe’s to brighten up your apartment. Then, go outside and spend some time in the beautiful spring weather!
