The Swatch store at 100 West 72nd Street, on the corner of Columbus Avenue, has closed its doors.
We thank reader Sandy Feldman for the tip.
“I’m heart broken, the store must have been there 25 years,” Feldman told us, adding that she bought her soon-to-be 30 year old son his first watch from the UWS store.
We’re not sure exactly how long the store was at its 72nd Street location, but those who’ve walked by the corner space at the Park and Tilford building for years will certainly need to do a few double-takes when they see it occupied by another tenant.

The Swiss company was founded in 1983, and currently has four stores in NYC.
I bought all my watches there and also have them fixed there – SO inconvenient now to to have to go to Grand Central Station or Times Square! The staff was very helpful.
remember it even during the 90s. wonder how many actually bought a swatch nowadays or even any kind of watch considering you have a mobile phone that does the same thing
I wish we had notice. I would have had new batteries put in a few swatch watches.
As a swimmer, I only wear swatch watches. I have bought multiple watches of many styles at this store including 6 of their Olympic-inspired watches … one from each of the 6 Olympic Games in which my son, Wolf Wigo, an upper West Sider, participated with the USA Olympic Water Polo team. They always promptly and diligently repaired or replaced the batteries with a smile. The store will be missed.
I remember when they opened, was maybe ‘96? Was a buzzy brand at the time.
I guess 1987 called and wanted their store back…
I moved to the neighborhood in June ’80 and The Natural Source was there. Baked items, but the only one that made an impression was their perfect scones. I had never heard of a scone before that, but they were the best I ever had. I tried to track them down after they closed, but never any success. Been chasing that perfection ever since then, but never found their equal.
I would have guessed that they closed in the early eighties, and was replaced by Swatch ’round about then.
I loved the Natural Source! They had an upstairs eating area. Divine carrot cake:)
I loved The Natural Source, too. Great scones and the absolute best carrot cake I’ve ever had (dense rich moist carroty cake with pistachios and the perfect cream cheese icing and no random dry coconut or bits of pineapple that people often put into it). Two Little Red Hens (UES) had a very good carrot cake, but still not as good as The Natural Source. 2 Little Red Hens say they are saying they’ll reopen soon in a new location, having closed for the pandemic.
