An Upper West Side sixteen-year-old named Caleb Rosenfeld has been donating his hair to charities that make wigs for children suffering from cancer and other medical afflictions which cause hair loss since the third grade, Patch first reported.
He’s more recently launched a new initiative called “Cutting it with Caleb” – which he says was designed to appeal to those who’ve had limited access to barbers during the pandemic.
“Because of COVID, one of the silver lining[s] in it is that maybe people did not have access to a salon for some amount of time, and I guess that would really be an opportunity if their hair’s already longer, they can potential donate it and that would be really special.” The goal of the initiative is to collect 3,000 inches of hair by the end of 2021.
Caleb writes on the website for the initiative, “The way I see it, donating your hair is an extremely simple act of kindness where you can truly and literally give a piece of yourself to someone who really needs it. People with cancer deal with so much on the inside and when you donate your hair, you have an opportunity to help them feel a little more like themselves on the outside!”
Cutting with Caleb has partnered with organizations including Hair We Share, Children With Hair Loss, Zichron Menachem, and Eli’s Hair Design on the Upper East Side.
