Upper West Sider Hattie Kolp gained overnight fame after posting video tours of her ridiculous apartment, which she reveals is rent controlled and costs her just $1,300 per month.
Kolp was flooded with inquiries after posting the first video, which prompted her to create a new one explaining her living situation.
As it’s an old apartment, she describes the work she’s had to put into it:

The apartment also has a library …

While the videos may have blown up her social accounts, Kolp enjoyed at least a little bit of web fame before TikTok. In an April 2020 article on Apartment Therapy, she was interviewed about the 1,500 square foot apartment and the history of her tenancy.
“I grew up in this apartment; it became mine when my parents retired and moved out of the city. They asked the landlord to switch the lease to my name, and he agreed! I work as a special education teacher by day, but I have devoted my nights, weekends, and summers for the past two years to making this place my own, undoing the damage from previous tenants, and restoring it back to its original condition.”
While Kolp describes having to put a lot of TLC into the old, glorious apartment, she expresses much gratitude for her lucky situation.
