It’s been a very turbulent week. Westsider Rare & Used Books expected to close their store at 2246 Broadway as of Monday. But a rapidly growing GoFundMe campaign has raised the $50,000 needed to keep the iconic bookstore open.
In just four days, the fundraiser has raised over fifty grand, and from 774 people! And it continues to grow.
The campaign was started by Upper West Sider Bobby Panza, who will likely become a local folk hero.
It was originally announced that the store would be closing due to business being slow. But hopefully the fear of losing such an iconic Upper West Side store will continue motivating locals to stop in more often.
It also isn’t completely clear how long the $50,000 will keep Westsider Books open; but with the help of local shoppers, let’s hope it stays in our lives indefinitely.
