Woman Raped in UWS Stairwell; Police Seek Suspect

NYPD officials are asking the public to help them identify and locate a suspect wanted for committing a rape on the Upper West Side this weekend.

It was reported that on Saturday, March 4 at about 1:20 a.m., a male suspect followed a 21-year-old female into a building near 65th and West End Avenue (an exact address was not provided).

“Once inside, the individual followed the victim into an elevator and then forced her out of the elevator and into a stairwell where he raped her,” police say.

The suspect then “forced the victim outside of the building” before fleeing on foot in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to an area hospital.

Police describe the individual as “a male, 5’8” in height, approximately 150 lbs., and believed to be in his 30s. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, a gray sweatshirt, and black pants.”

Surveillance footage of the suspect has been captured and shared.
