Zabar’s has become much more than a destination for exquisite cheeses, bagels and smoked fish varieties.
The iconic Upper West Side store, located at 2245 Broadway (at 80th Street), recently partnered with Vans to sell Zabar’s branded sneakers; one of its long-respected lox slicers (a 91 year old) was honored by NY politicians; and now, they’ve launched their own podcast!
The host is Willie Zabar – a “fourth generation deli man” and stand up comedian who dives deep into the store’s history – starting from its 1834 founding by Louis and Lillian Zabar – with various interviews and perspectives.
The first two episodes of the new podcast aired on May 17 and May 24, and the third and final episode of the mini season will be airing on May 31.
“The Zabar’s Podcast explores the history and personalities behind one of New York City’s most beloved grocery stores. In each episode, 4th-generation deli man Willie Zabar dives into a different aspect of the store through conversations with employees, customers, and culinary experts.”
