UWS Townhouse Once Home to Billie Holiday Sells for $10.5 Million

The townhouse once occupied by jazz icon Billie Holiday has sold for $10.5 million after first hitting the market in 2022 for $13,995,000.

The New York Post was the first publication to report on the sale.

Holiday, known as “Lady Day,” was a resident of the townhouse at 26 West 87th Street until her death in 1959. While living in apartment #1B, she released one of her most famous albums, Lady in Satin, in 1958.

The early 1900s 20-foot wide townhouse, which was fully renovated to retain its historic details, spans more than 6,300 square feet across six floors and comes with fourteen rooms, seven bedrooms, six full bathrooms, two powder rooms, six fireplaces and a garden.

The sellers purchased the townhouse in 2017 for $9.47 million.
