A board game cafe is expected to open at 200 West 84th Street early next year (Google Maps).

An Upper West Side resident is planning to bring some “good chaos” to the neighborhood in the form of a board game cafe slated to open in early 2024.

The brainchild of 38-year-old Andrew Panos, Chaotic Good will offer a selection of board games and non-traditional coffees and sweets at 200 W. 84th St. (between Amsterdam and Broadway). The space was originally slated to become Long Play Record Bar, a vinyl-playing cocktail lounge that never fully materialized.

“I’ve always loved board games and coffee,” said Panos, an NYC resident since 2003 when he enrolled at Fordham. “I love to bring people together and organize fun.”

Panos, a career social media analytics and insights professional who previously worked for YouTube, is planning a menu themed after one of his favorite places to visit: New Orleans. The Bayou-based offerings will include chicory coffees, café au laits and other items inspired by the Crescent City.

Chaotic Good will serve fresh pastries daily, but instead of beignets, Panos is planning to incorporate a Dutch-inspired coffee complement – stroopwafel. Beer and wine, international candies, and a rotating selection of carefully sourced coffee will complete what’s sure to be an unexpected yet exciting menu. Panos is currently in the process of hiring a lead barista.

As for games, Chaotic Good will offer about 400 options including classics, two player games, European strategy games and even Crokinole, a two-player dexterity game from Canada that Panos believes no other bar or cafe in NYC offers. The cafe will also host events like coffee talks and tastings, where Panos hopes to help spotlight small coffee businesses and local roasters.

A Staten Island native who grew up in New Jersey, Panos has been hosting weekly trivia nights at Dive Bar at 96th St. (732 Amsterdam Ave) for a few years.

“The audience and neighborhood vibe I built there on trivia nights is something I’m aiming to emulate at the cafe,” said Panos. “I want to make something the community can get behind.”
