Chanel Beauty Store to Open on 69th and Columbus

Luxury lovers are in for a treat — multiple sources have informed us that a dedicated Chanel Beauty boutique is currently in the works at 197-199 Columbus Ave at West 69th Street.

Despite the prime corner spot in a mini retail haven (Allbirds, Club Monaco and Aesop are just up the block), this particular storefront has seen significant turnover in recent years. Back in August, athletic footwear purveyor Hoka opened its doors in the former Reiss outpost, but it seems the neighborhood’s affinity for running shoes didn’t last too long.

That said, the illustrious pull of Chanel is sure to satisfy the uptown client — especially as the brand’s standalone beauty stores are few and far between. While you can shop their exclusive cosmetic offerings at high-end department stores like Saks, their website only notes 19 beauty and fragrance locations in the country — the nearest being The Mall at Short Hills in New Jersey. Downtown residents can visit the Atelier Beauté Chanel on Wooster Street to get their fix and receive in-person makeup tutorials, but it’s not a traditional retail experience.

Given the proximity to beauty behemoths like Sephora and Bluemercury, you may be wondering what sets Chanel apart from competitors. The answer? History and unparalleled quality. Here’s just one example: They launched the iconic fragrance Chanel No. 5 back in 1921, and 100 years later, it maintains the status of the bestselling perfume of all time. In fact, one bottle is reportedly sold every 30 seconds.

In addition to makeup and fragrance, Chanel has stayed at the forefront of the crowded skincare space since 1927 — constantly evolving their products to appeal to modern consumers. Other perennial crowd-pleasers include nail polish (specifically Le Vernis in Rouge Noir, their signature shade, which first made waves when Uma Thurman wore it in Pulp Fiction) and their classic red lipstick.

Columbus Avenue just officially got an upgrade in the chic department!
