A “for rent” sign was spotted this morning on the door of Jean Louis David, located 2146 Broadway (between 75th and 76th Streets). Thanks to Joseph Manghise for letting us know and sending us the photo below.
The space is on the market with Philip Katz of Katz NYC. We’ve reached out to the brokerage to inquire about pricing.
Jean Louis David had this location running for quite some time. Even though barbershops were recently cleared to open, perhaps the fact that some people may have gotten used to cutting their own hair throughout the pandemic, while others have gotten used to getting hair cuts from a guy in Central Park in exchange for donations, has made it too hard for this expensive hair care business to survive on the Upper West Side.

My wonderful hairdresser said they were told to come in to work on Wed. They were totally busy. Then Thurs at midday they were told they were closing in one hour and to take out all of their belongings. NO notice! Terrible management! Wonderful hairdressers without jobs!
Bobby Sue Daitch – are you serious? That’s terrible! That was a great location and staff! I will miss them! Do you have another JLD location that you’ll go to now? Do you have any contact information for your stylists? I only have info for one, and she’s not yet replied to me. I really hope to locate her wherever she is… Thanks so much for any insight you have!
