Recent Community Board 7 notes indicate that Italian restaurant La Pecora Bianca will be opening at 359 Columbus Avenue at 77th Street. (Thanks to ‘Upper West Sider’ for the tip). This space was most recently occupied by Mediterranean restaurant 8th Hill, which opened in mid-2019 and closed in August 2020. Isabella’s was the previous tenant, closing in May 2017 after operating out of the storefront for thirty years.
Established in 2015, La Pecora Bianca has locations at 26th and Broadway, East 50th and Second Avenue, and on Prince Street in Soho. Our tipster also tells us the restaurant is planning to open two additional NYC locations.
The restaurant appears to have pretty solid reviews, as well as a sizable IG following. Pastas are made in-house, with one standout being their Black Burgundy Truffle Tagliatelle. The restaurant’s burrata can be added to any pasta, and is offered as an appetizer (with “squash caponata, Calabrian honey and country toast”).
Signature dishes include La Pecora Bianca’s gramigna with sausage and broccolini and tagliatelle with beef and pork bolognese, though menus seem to vary a bit by location and the seasons.
La Pecora Bianca means “the white sheep” in Italian, and the owners have designed the restaurants to offer a “relaxed, all-day dining experience and vibrant Italian fare in a beautiful setting.” Emphasis appears to be strong on local and seasonal cuisine, with lots of focus on veggies and pasta.
We’ve reached out to the restaurant but they declined to comment at this time. We’ll provide an update once we have more info! Learn more at www.lapecorabianca.com.
