Long-time Zabar’s lox slicer Len Berk recently returned to the counter. Now, he’s been honored by Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, who visited the iconic store to recognize his 26 years of service.
For 26 years, Len Berk has been @ZabarsIsNY’s beloved lox slicer— it was wonderful to honor him together with @LtGovHochulNY for his service to the UWS and NYC!
Wonderful reminder that small businesses such as this are the bedrock of our communities, & make our city stronger! pic.twitter.com/NRJIPuLHR2

The 91 year old slicer was put on leave in March 2020 due to the pandemic. During this time, many of his loyal customers (who include celebrities like Jerry Seinfeld) would ask about his whereabouts.
“People come to me repeatedly. Some people say that I’m their lox slicer and they’ll always come to me, even if they have to wait extra time,” Berk told the Post, which first reported his return to Zabar’s.
