On Wednesday, Feb. 15 at about 8:30 p.m., a 31-year-old female was dining at Felice at 240 Columbus Avenue (at West 71st Street). Police say that “While her purse was off her person but in close vicinity to her, two unknown individuals were able to successfully remove her wallet from within her purse.”
The suspects fled the scene and used the victim’s credit card to buy $1,524 worth of merchandise from the Apple store at 767 Fifth Avenue (at 59th Street). The suspects are wanted for grand larceny, as the value of the stolen property exceeds $1,000.
Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter.
Well I’m glad to know they didn’t use the money for food or baby things or rent or car payments or a nice vacay to a gay caribe isle.
Apple ought to be able to “find my phone”, no?
WBeave:
Doesn’t say anything about a stolen iPhone.
Does says something about Apple not asking for ID, sloppy for purchases of say more than $100.
Right. But New iPhone 14 max with 1tB costs $1499. Plus taxes, gets it pretty close to that charge of $1524.
I was guessing she bought a new iPhone 14 Pro Max and Apple can “find my iPhone for the cops.
If it were me? I’d have gone for the heaviest hitting Computer and monitor!
Okay, but if it were an iPhone purchase, the machine may have been resold hot, so the thieves would get the cash and a new owner would get a discount on a functioning iPhone.
Still don’t see why Apple isn’t IDing purchases spending more than a few hundred dollars. Just do it for everyone, then no one can claim discrimination.
To this day women in cities and towns throughout the U.S., sling their bags (carelessly) over the back of their chairs as they take their seats at restaurant tables assuming that the bags will (a) not be taken or (b) quickly rifled through as iPhones, wallets, and loose cash are snatched as people pass by. Not sure why no one has told them to stop doing this and stop assuming the best, i.e. your purse/bag/satchel will be right where you left it or will contain everything it did when you last looked inside. Fathers, mothers tell your daughters from the ages of 12 on, “DO NOT LEAVE YOUR BAGS HANGING OFF THE BACK OF YOUR CHAIR…..EVER!” Don’t bring a bag, leave it on your lap or place it (uncomfortably) on the floor between your feet and hope nothing crawls inside if you happen to be dining al fresco or in one of the thousands of shacks constructed since Covid-19 caused this new dining feature loved and hated by millions.
Two months ago? I wonder why these crimes aren’t publicized sooner.
But but but we need more public housing and homeless shelters! /s
You know a resident of public housing or a shelter committed this theft how?
I see a lot more theft in dollar amounts, some directly from accounts, by “finance” this theft. However ibankers mostly don’t live in public housing.
