A 17-year-old boy was shot about a block away from Martin Luther King High School at 66th and Amsterdam Avenue at about 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Sources say he was shot three times in the torso. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.
At least one teen who police believe was involved in the shooting was arrested at a nearby location.
Following the incident, both MLK and LaGuardia High School (located at 65th and Amsterdam) were locked down and students were instructed to stay inside.
The lockdowns were lifted around 11:00 a.m., but a sizable police presence remained stationed outside the school for a few hours after the incident.
Information about the suspect(s) and their motives are currently unknown.
