“The blue-footed booby has long served as our brand’s unofficial avian mascot,” said Warby Parker in an announcement sent to ILTUWS, which also celebrated now having more than 200 stores in total across the U.S. and Canada. “Since we modeled our company’s color scheme off its sophisticated grey plumage and playfully bright blue feet, it only felt right to honor this inspirational bird in our new space.”
Right across the street from the Museum of Natural History, this location will also be known as the Warby Parker Museum of the Blue-Footed Booby. For opening day, there will be three-dimensional blue-footed booby figures, wall text and custom in-store artwork by New York-based artists Maira Kalman, Julia Rothman, Nate Padavick and Or Gotham.
Warby Parker’s 424 Columbus Avenue location will offer in-store eye exams as well as their full lineup of optical offerings. You can also find Warby Parker on the Upper West Side at 185 Columbus Avenue between 68th and 69th streets.
Inspired by two characters used by American novelist Jack Kerouac, Warby Parker is also known for its Home Try-On program where you can select five frames which they’ll ship to you to try on for free. If you find something you like, you can order online and they send you a brand-new pair with your prescription in place; you send back the five sample frames. There’s also the Virtual Try-On (available on iPhone X and above), where you upload a picture of yourself and see a digital view of how the glasses will look on you.
